Trello has been a favourite tool of mine for a long time. I have used it to design websites, outline books, project management, and to collaborate with others. It is an excellent tool for creating a book outline. It is intuitive and easy to use.
What is Trello?
Trello is a web-based, list making application that can help you easily create and update your book’s outline.
Why Outline with Trello
Your book’s outline is a working record of how you want to organize your book. Writing is an iterative process, so you want to have a way to quickly see and update your outline as you go. Even though you have the outline in your writing document, having another version that is easy to work with and doesn’t come with all the content included makes changes easier.

Your Book Outline is Iterative
Like any author, as you write you will realize that you have to add sections, delete sections, and move things around as you write. Instead of trying to do that in a document with lots of content that you move and then move again, using Trello let’s you see what changes look like quickly and easily.
Trello is Intuitive
The best thing about Trello is how easy and intuitive it is to use. You can easily create boards, that can become sections or chapters of your book. Under each board, you can add headings.
Once the initial outline is complete, switching things around to see what works and what doesn’t is an easy drag and drop.
Watch a Demo
Watch the video for a demo of Trello. I think you will love it as much as I do for outlining books. You might even start using it for all your projects!
