How Does Planning Your Writing Help You

Do you need a plan to write a book?

That’s like asking: Do I need to have a plan for my vacation, or should I just turn up at the airport? Take a moment to imagine turning up at the airport without a plan. Do you have that image in your head? Having a plan, even a loose plan, will help you stay on track.

Planners Vs Pantsers

The difference between planners and pantsers is the complexity of their plan and the level of success they acquire with ease.

Planners have a written outline. *written* Maybe even headers within chapters planned out. A few points for each.

Pantsers (you know, those who fly by the seat of their pants) say they don’t have a plan. Except they do have a plan but they have written nothing down. That plan lives in their heads. Which can be a dangerous thing.

Do you need a written plan? Yes. How detailed it gets will determine how far you get. No passport. Not leaving the country, ma’am.

Without a plan, you are a ship lost at sea, managing each wave as it hits your bow.

If you want to write like a professional and publish a professional book, plan in a way that makes you think, organizes your ideas, provides motivation, and keeps you on track.
